Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción

12th century

The church has a single nave, square head part and a belfry. The northern wall and its doorway with a semicircular arch belong to Romanesque period. This doorway is blind nowadays and its leaves motifs are decorated inside and out. There are imposts of nacelle and 2 columns with simple buds capitals on the northern wall. All of them have Romanesque style.

In the north facade have been preserved part of the Romanesque elements. In the center is the doorway, a double semicircular arch with quadrangular archivolts. The internal thread rests on pilasters with nacelle imposts, and the exterior on double small columns. The capital of the eastern column has a line of leaves topped with human heads, and the western has 3 overlapping lines.

The eastern facade is complete and next to it there is a carved stone which was probably a Roman funerary stele. Next to the staircase can be seen a white ashlar. It is probably of marble and has an inscription.

Inside, the temple preserves the northern doorway with a semicircular arch, much like the outer door, so it follows that they are remnants of the Romanesque doorway that was undoubtedly in the southern wall, which was moved here at some point and used as a niche.

The access is free of charge but there are neither visiting hours nor guided tours. 

The temple can be visited only during mass celebrations.
