Church of Santa Marina

Sejas de Sanabria

12th century

This church dates from late Romanesque. Much like the neighboring Mombuey it is from the late12th or early 13th century, but retains Gothic elements. It was during this period when underwent major renovations changing the head part, adding buttresses to the sloped walls and an interior triumphal arch, where can be seen the typical pointed elements. The temple is built with carved ashlar in corners and reinforcing elements, while for the remainder was used in masonry.

Outside stands a beautiful bell tower. On the other hand, the doorway consists of a pointed arch and archivolt. Worthy of special mention are their 2 carved crosses: a cross of Malta and the other with 6 arms.

Inside can be seen a head part of Gothic style, with octagonal roof, lighted by a window facing south. In the 17th and 18th was renovated the northern side, enlarging the nave by semicircular arches. Can be highlighted the triumphal-arch capitals that separate the apse from the rest of the church which are decorated with Apostles’ images among other. At the foot of the church can be seen on 2 shelves an “Agnus Dei”, the Lamb of God, without the cross.

It also houses a small sculpture of the Virgin and Child under the name of "Virgen de la O". It is believed that it dates from the first half of the 13th century.
