Church of Santa María Magdalena

The parish church of Santa María Magdalena, was built of sandstone ashlar. It consists of a nave and 2 aisles of different width topped by 3 polygonal apses of rich Gothic vaults, tower at its foot and a belfry on the nave of the Epistle. The nave is wider than the aisles and it is divided into two sections covered with groin vaults with floral plaster work. The aisles have the same features, although the Epistle aisle is much narrower. They are separated from the nave by semicircular arches. 

The church has 2 entrances: one facing south with a big portico, and the other facing west. The sacristy is attached at the point of the chapel of the nave of the Epistle.

From its central nave can be accessed the chancel through a pointed arch with thin molding. The end is covered with 3 stretches and the chapel is covered with rich ribbed vault of triangular section.

The tower is facing west and was built of ashlar. At its base there is a door with a semicircular arch, jambs and pilasters. Next to the sacristy there is a small belfry organized in 2 bodies. The first is solid and has fluted pilasters and the second has a semicircular opening framed by fluted pilasters and also a small triangular pediment.

Inside can be seen a 12th-century stone Romanesque sculpture of a Virgin, and the so-called “Cristo del Miserere”. It is Gothic and dates from the 14th century.

The access is free of charge but there are neither visiting hours nor guided tours. 

The temple can be visited only during mass celebrations.
